Morning dawned bright and early today at Camp Firebelly. After an energizing night of brainstorming, we were awakened from our luxurious red air mattresses by the the scent of pancakes and eggs wafting through the air. I am now convinced that the Firebelly crew are not only rockstar designers but also have some mad culinary skills. It was pretty amazing.

After breakfast we had Lara Brooks come to visit. She helped motivate us further on social justice issues, particularly the need for positive transformational communities and safe places to serve the often overlooked. It was all quite provocative and I enjoyed her message. She also had some really cool glasses, which has been a pleasantly recurring theme of the week.

Then it was back to lots and lots of work on our different parts of the zine and poster. As a fun surprise, the boys from Delicious dropped by to give us the lowdown on screen printing and posters. Just when we were craving a bit of outside time, Dawn surprised us with a trip to Thirst studio to meet the Rick Valicenti. So cool! We were all inspired by his ideas and personal projects. In true reality show fashion, upon leaving we received a second assignment for camp. It was a total surprise, though I think it’ll be cool.

Then it was all back to work. I think the best times in the studio seem to be the super late nights when we are all a bit more relaxed and willing to give up our strict grid-oriented daytime selves. Music and design kind of take over and it’s a bit of creative community critique fest. So, with that said, it’s time to fire up inDesign and make some high quality PDFs in anticipation of tomorrow’s client meeting. I’ve spent the better part of the day interpreting a poem typographically. It’s definitely been a growing experience….though I think I’m kind of getting into the vibe.

Day 2 has been pretty amazing all around. The FB crew never cease to amaze me with all that they do for us and all the kind of dazzling experiences that seem to be lurking around every corner. And who knows what tomorrow will bring…..
